Characteristics
The preparation has a characteristic color and odor which is not a hindrance.
Cutozinc® Ichtamo Spray with ichthammol (1%) and zinc oxide (10%) is intended for treating skin prone to eczema and for problematic skin in children and adults.
It calms down the sensitive and irritated skin. It can be used since the neonatal age. Its application on the skin does not make it more sensitive when exposed to sunlight. A hygienic and easy use without the necessity of touching the skin.
The preparation can be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women and children of all age categories.
Use
Shake before using for the first time! Spray a thin even layer over a thoroughly cleaned and dried skin. To clean the skin use preferably medicinal antiseptic soaps (e.g. Cutosan®). Spray from a distance of approximately 5-10 cm. It is not necessary to apply two layers as the spray works efficiently in one layer only. If necessary, rub into the skin. The affected area tends to be irritated and painful, therefore it is better to avoid touching them too often. Apply several times per day as necessary over the whole affected area. The treatment has to be long-term and regular as well. A slight drying of the treated areas is a side-effect of the treatment, so we recommend a regular application of emollients (e.g. AD lotio Acut).
How Does Ichthammol Work?
Ichthammol and zinc oxide are among frequently used local dermatological medication in children (with regard to its safety even when applied long-term). Ichthammol (ichtamol, ichthyol) is a mixture of ingredients obtained by the sulphonation of bituminous oils. Traditionally, it was obtained by the distillation of fossil slate. It has anti-itching, anti-inflammatory, ceratoplastic, antiseboroic and slightly antiseptic effects. It is slightly irritating, has low sensitizing potential, does not desensitize the skin when exposed to light. However, it has an unpleasant distinct odor and a brown-black color. Ichthammol is used in the treatment of subacute forms of eczema (mainly atopic), seboroic and perioral dermatitis, for acute appearances of psoriasis, lichen ruber planus, pityriasis rosea and for acne vulgaris. Ichthammol has a similarly favorable curing effect as pix lithantracis (coal tar), without its undesired side effects (toxic influence on the liver and kidneys, local carcinogenicity when used long-term in higher concentrations).

How does Zincum oxydatum work?
Zincum oxydatum (zinc oxide, zinc flower) is an amorphous, fine, odor-free, white powder. It is acquired from natural zincite material. It has cooling, slightly astringent and mildly anti-septic effects. Zinc oxide is a part of the powders, suspensions, liquid powders and soft pastes, which are oftentimes used in children’s dermatology. Zinc oxide has a soothing effect and significantly promotes skin’s regeneration. Zinc products also have a positive effect on the healing process.
